Built for patchy connections

Offline billing software: a restaurant POS that works without internet

The broadband drops at 8:40pm with fourteen tables seated. Here is exactly what NamastePOS does next.

What happens when the network goes:

  1. The order is written to the phone the moment you take it. The device is the record, not a browser tab.
  2. The KOT still fires to your kitchen printer or the kitchen display. The bill still prints. Cash and UPI are still recorded.
  3. When the connection returns, the held orders replay in order, each with the ID it was created with.
  4. The server accepts each ID once. A retry cannot create a second bill, so nobody is charged twice.

There is no offline mode to switch on and nothing to remember mid-rush. Offline billing is part of the core POS, so it is on every plan including the free one.

On every plan Cannot double-charge No annual lock-in

The device is the record

Orders are saved locally as they are taken, not queued in a page that a refresh can wipe.

Idempotent replay

Each order has an ID made on the phone. The server accepts it once. Retries are ignored, not duplicated.

Unbroken invoice series

Bills raised offline keep their place in the same numbering sequence when they sync.

Nothing to switch on

No separate offline app, no toggle, no reconnect dance. Your staff will not notice the difference.

Why this is rare

Most "cloud POS" is only as good as your WiFi

Three ways billing software fails during an outage, and what we do instead.

A browser tab is not a POS

Software that runs in a browser tab loses the cart when the page reloads or the phone locks. NamastePOS is an installed app that writes to the device first.

A desktop POS ties you to one box

A machine in the back room keeps billing during an outage, but it also brings a PC, an AMC and a person who has to come and fix it. Your phone needs none of that.

A blind retry double-bills

A queue that resends without an identity creates duplicate bills, and you find them at day-end. Our order IDs are made on the device and accepted once.

Straight answer

What works offline, and what does not

Some things genuinely need a connection. Pretending otherwise would waste your time.

Mechanism

Why a bill can never be charged twice

This is the failure that costs money and trust. The fix is boring and it matters.

  • The order ID is generated on the phone when the order is created, not by the server.
  • If the reply is lost and the phone retries, it sends the same ID again.
  • The server recognises the ID it has already accepted and returns the original order instead of writing a new one.
  • Refunds, wallet top-ups and payments follow the same rule.
  • Anything that still cannot be sent goes to a dead-letter queue you can see, rather than disappearing quietly.

The rest of the POS, on the same phone

Offline is the reason owners switch. It is not the only thing they need.

  • The phone is the till. No PC, no billing machine, no AMC.
  • Staff sign in with their phone number and a 4-digit PIN.
  • KOT and kitchen display on every plan, including the free one.
  • GST tax invoices with CGST/SGST and HSN per item from Pro at ₹799 a month. E-invoice formats from Advanced at ₹999 a month.
  • Loyalty, wallet, memberships, WhatsApp receipts and QR self-ordering included.
  • Live reports on every plan. No report paywall, no annual lock-in.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Does the billing keep working without internet?
Yes. NamastePOS writes each order to the phone as it is taken, so the counter does not depend on the network to bill. You keep taking orders, firing KOTs, printing bills and recording cash or UPI. There is no offline mode to switch on and nothing to remember during a rush.
What happens to my bills while the phone is offline?
They are held on the device with their invoice numbers and totals intact. When the connection comes back the app replays them in order, and they appear in your reports and in the web dashboard exactly as they were billed. Nothing is retyped and nothing is lost.
Can a bill get charged twice when it syncs?
No. Every order carries an ID generated on the device, and the server accepts that ID only once. If the phone retries because a reply went missing, the second attempt is recognised and ignored rather than creating a duplicate bill. This is the difference between a real offline POS and a queue that hopes for the best.
Is offline billing on the free plan?
Yes. Offline billing is part of the core POS, so it is on every plan including Starter at ₹0. Paid plans start at ₹299 a month per register and add loyalty, WhatsApp, reports and higher limits. GST tax invoices start on Pro at ₹799 a month.

Test it the honest way

Install the app, add two items, put the phone in airplane mode and take an order. Then turn the network back on and watch it land once.
